Sailing the Atlantic Circuit

Eight years ago, when Ben and I first met, we decided that we wanted to sail the Atlantic together. Ben, having sailed the Atlantic before, wanted to skipper his own boat across and for me, having only just found my sea legs, it sounded like a good adventure and gave a purpose to my sailing. I don't think I ever thought we would actually make it happen.

The one thing I have learnt about Ben since then, is that if you say you're going to do something, he will make sure it happens. And so now, after a lot of hard work and preparation and a new boat, I am writing this with just a handful of days left in the UK before we begin an adventure of a lifetime and despite having left our jobs, rented our house out and mostly moved onto the boat, I still can't get my head around the fact that I am about to set sail to the Caribbean on board our Westerly Corsair, Cariad.

The rough outline of our trip is depart from Falmouth for A Caruna, Spain at the end of August (one of the many benefits of Brexit means that we now only have 90 days in Europe before we have to leave again), we will spend some time in the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal and hopefully the Algarve, before making a jump to Madeira, then the Canaries to prep for the Atlantic crossing towards the end of November. We hope to make landfall in Barbados before Christmas and will then spend 4 and a half months cruising round the Caribbean. We will then leave the Caribbean early May and make our way home via Bermuda, the Azores and France for July 2023.
